How To Stay Motivated To Workout and Eat Healthy (Part 2)

Hey there! Welcome to part 2 of my “How To Stay Motivated To Workout and Eat Healthy” post. If you haven’t read part one of this post yet, you can click right here for a quick and magical trip to part 1! This part will focus more on the eating portion of the post. So let’s just scoop in! Get it? Scoop=Eat! No? Okayyyyy

Personally, I think it’s harder to eat healthy than to workout. Eating healthy is a whole process that can be very tiring and sometimes boring if you don’t do it right. You have to research and learn about whole foods, write down your grocery list, go to the grocery store and actually cook your food. You also have to stay motivated in order to resist the drive thru, Uber eats, and all the takeouts! Fun, right? These are some tips that helped me and might help you adapt to a healthy eating habit.

Clean your pantry and fridge.

Start by cleaning your pantry and your fridge. Get rid of all processed, pre-prepared sugary foods. Get rid of all the potato chips, candies, cookies, brownies, frozen lunch and dinner, pretty much everything that makes you feel guilty when you eat it. Keep reading for some substitutes ideas!

Substitute with healthy options

I stopped using white sugar a while ago, instead I use honey which is a great substitute. If you have a sweet tooth, buy lots of fruits, especially grapes to keep around your kitchen! They are low calories, and they are whole food. If you think that you use too much salt in your diet, you probably do, start using salt replacement that you can find in your local grocery store. About a year ago I stopped using salt when I’m cooking, instead I would use other seasoning. However, now I reintroduced salt in my cooking and I use sea salt moderately. If you feel like you can’t live without eating chips for some reason, try making your own! You can find many recipes on Pinterest for homemade chips! Try it!

Always bring healthy snacks with you

I always try to bring a snack with me everywhere I go. Most of of the time, I’ll have a protein bar, whole wheat crackers in my bag, or simply an apple, especially when I know that I’m gonna be out for a couple hours. That will stop you from going to the vending machine or a fast food place when you want a snack.

Hangout with like-minded people

Try to find people who have the same goals as you, who understand where you stand with your healthy lifestyle and who will support you through it all! It is so much easier when you have someone that will encourage you to workout, eat healthy and understand you . Go to the gym together or have a cooking date, it will help so much!

Don’t give up after one small set back

Just because you fell off track, does not mean that you should punish yourself and give up! NO! Just get back up, and keep going! We all have busy life and it is so easy to just quit when you already have thousands of things that you have to do for your work, for school and families… But what about you? You have to create time for yourself and tell yourself that you have to do this for YOU. Quitting is not an option when you have goals. It’s okay if you don’t go to the gym for a couple days, or if you eat takeout twice a week. As long as it doesn’t become the norm and as long you get right back to your healthy routine, you’ll be just fine! Trust me!

Ditch the scale

Listen! THE NUMBERS ON THE SCALE DO NOT DEFINE YOU. Like seriously, try not to get obsessed with the scale. A person can be 150 lbs (female) or 230 lbs (male) and be considered overweight because of their body mass index (BMI); however, they can have a healthy lifestyle and be very fit, the extra pounds are just muscle weights.  Whereas,  someone can be 120 lbs (Female) or 190 lbs (male) and have a very bad diet with an unhealthy lifestyle. This is just to give you an idea about how the numbers on the scale don’t really count. Just workout, eat healthy, love yourself and you’ll see the results physically and mentally!
