I can’t believe that I already completed my first month in the fall semester. Like, why is time flying?! This new semester has been a very interesting one, not only because I transferred to a new school but also because it’s the biggest (largest) school that I’ve ever attended. I have classes every day of the week which is not the best for me, but I make it work! I also started a new fitness routine because I had to find ways to stay fit this semester. I am thinking about canceling or freezing my gym membership because, first, I haven’t been able to create enough time for the gym the way my school and work schedules are set up; Second, there is a gym on campus which I’m yet to find its location. Anyways, I just thought that I would share my new fitness routine with you guys and hopefully, it will give you an idea on how you can stay active/fit this semester! Let’s dive right in!
DRINK WATER
Now, you might be thinking “Well, I’m clearly doing something wrong because I’ve been drinking water for forever, and I seriously don’t like it or I don’t see how it will help me stay fit”. If I not seeing any results, there’s a chance that you’re not drinking enough water. 1-5 glass of water daily will NOT help you stay fit. If you just don’t like the “taste” of water, try infused water! They are one of my favorite ways to get my water intake and most of them are packed with nutrients. Check out my fun ways to infuse water post to get some ideas!
Pack Your Lunch
I am commuting this semester. Therefore, I spend most of the day on campus. Bringing my own lunch has saved my wallet and has saved me from starving. Every morning, I just threw my meal-prep, a couple snacks in my lunch box and I am good to go! I make sure to bring easy lunch and snacks that I really like. I also make sure that the foods are both energy and nutrient dense. Therefore, I’ll get in all my nutrients and be energetic to tackle the day. My actual lunch will be anything from a salad to a pasta. For my snacks I always have a fruit, crackers and chocolate. Just make it fun, healthy and enjoyable!
Have a Healthy Diet
When I say “diet”, I don’t mean the commercial diets like Keto, potato diet and such. I mean your daily intake, the food and drinks that you have on a daily basis. It is very important to have a diverse diet which includes carbs, fats, protein, water, vitamins and minerals . Make sure that you’re eating Whole Foods that can provide all the essential nutrients that your body needs. Like I mentioned previously, make sure that your food are both nutrient and energy dense. You’ll find the most nutrients in your fruits and veggies. For energy dense food, you can try nuts, avocados, pasta, potatoes and a lot more. Try swapping some of your favorite for healthy ones. For instance, instead of candies, you can have grapes! Check this link out for some healthy ingredients swap!
Walk. Walk. Walk .
Every chance that you get, walk. They probably have shuttles at your school to take you around which is good. However, if you can walk the 15 mins to your chemistry class, just do it. It will save you the wait time for the shuttle and you’ll get a quick workout in! Instead of the elevator, take the stairs. Park in the parking spot further away from your buildings. Nobody want to park there anyways, so you don’t have to drive around for 15 mins trying to find a closer spot. Also, you’re burning more calories by walking a longer distance! Just keep walking!
Home workout!
I haven’t been to the gym since I started this semester. Therefore, rather than not being active at all, I decided to start from where I began with my fitness journey, which is home workout. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a good home workout. I’ve gotten so used to the gym that I’ve forgotten how much I love being in the comfort of my home to just sweat it out. There are several resources that you can use, such as YouTube, Instagram and other free apps, to help you exercise! You can get some dumbbells and other workout equipment from Walmart and amazon! Also, I have some of my favorite workouts on my blog! Definitely check them out!
Try daily yoga/ stretch!!!
Yoga/stretching, for me, is a great way to cope with stress. It is also a way for me to stay active while increasing my flexibility. My mom got me this yoga box set that comes with a book and a follow along DVD. The DVD is about 1hr long, however, it’s separated into mini workout/flow sessions such as warm up, sun salutation, spinal twist; Therefore, you can choose one from the mini workouts to do. I personally recommend doing the whole thing because it makes such a difference. You can also use YouTube, Instagram and some other apps to guide you through your flow!
There you have it guys! I know that you’ve probably heard most of these before! Therefore, take this as the sign that you were waiting for to apply them to your lifestyle. It can be very hard to stay focus on your goals, to stay focus on your diet and take care of your body; however, you have to remember that your body is your home, this is where you live! Take care of yourself! Dedicate 30 mins everyday to check in with your body, to do a fun workout, to stretch! Decide for the upcoming week that you are going to meal prep and make healthier choices! Love yourself enough to choose you! You can do this! I believe in you!
